North Korea said Friday the ruling party's powerful military commission has held a meeting to determine personnel reshuffle and organizational matters to beef up national defense both militarily and politically.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over the first enlarged meeting of the seventh central military commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
"The meeting decided on a series of organizational measures to further strengthen the revolutionary army of the party militarily and politically and improve the overall work for defending the country," the KCNA said.
"The Supreme Leader (Kim) analyzed and reviewed the implementation of the military and political tasks of the People's Army after the Seventh WPK Congress and indicated the main orientation and ways of the army building and the military activity," it added.
The meeting for building military policy and strategies marked the first of its kind since the seventh party congress was held in May 2016.
Details on the mentioned organizational measures were not disclosed. Speculation lingers that those measures might be linked to the North's nuclear-related policy following the April 27 inter-Korean summit in which Kim affirmed the goal of "complete" denuclearization.
Kim is set to hold an unprecedented summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, in which his country's nuclear weapons program is expected to top the agenda.
The KCNA also reported that decisions related to a personnel reshuffle have been made during the meeting, though it did not specify whose positions were changed.
"It also dealt with the organizational matter on relieving and appointing some members of the WPK Central Military Commission and relieving or transferring senior officials of the armed forces organs and appointing new ones," it added. (Yonhap)
